There just aren’t enough hours in the day to do everything we want to do. When we try to, we end up spreading ourselves too thin, and nothing really gets done. When I’m with my kids, I want to be with my kids, in the moment – not thinking about work or anything else. Same goes for when I’m with my friends, I want to enjoy my time with them and be engaged in conversation – not feel like I’m missing spending that time with my kids.
I read a blog recently that really resonated with me. It was called, “Friends, Family, Work, Sleep, Fitness – Pick 3.” Out of all of these categories, we must commit to only three each week. We can re-prioritize our time and choose a different three every week, however we see fit. For instance, say you choose fitness (or health), family and sleep (or me time). You might decide to leave work early to pick up the kids from school (family), especially if you don’t normally get to do this. Then, try preparing a home-made well-rounded, healthy meal for dinner (fitness or health) with a protein, a vegetable and a grain. Heck, you can even top it off with our vitamin lollipop for dessert, yum! And, don’t forget, when you leave work really leave work AKA don’t sign back on after the kids go to sleep. Instead, use that time for yourself (sleep or me time) and take a bubble bath or at least try to get to bed earlier than you normally would.
I am going to try to pick three starting this week, and I’ll let you know how it goes. You should do the same! This week I will choose: Family, Friends & Work. So I guess, sleep and fitness are out! (story of my life).
