Boys Like Make Up Too
“Mommy, me put on make up,” my little one excitedly tells me while I’m getting ready for work.
“Good job!” I say back, as I see smudges of greys and blacks all over his chin and cheeks. My little boy is three and has always liked playing with my makeup bag – exploring the makeup bottles & tubes inside, taking them in and out, squeezing them, smudging them, smearing them, etc. Thankfully I don’t have any real expensive makeup in there.
Thinking more about this as I went to bed last night, I’m 100% OK with my son playing with my makeup, just as I would be about him choosing to wear a dress or tutu or play with a baby doll (he has one of his own) or anything else pink or purple or ‘girly’ for that matter. And I’m sure if I had a girl, I would feel just the same if she wanted to play with trucks and trains or dress up as a conductor or fireman. We as parents always want to support our children with anything they want to do, whether it follows suit within the ‘natural’ gender stereotypes or not. So if makeup is what my son is into now, then so be it! I say, go ahead and have fun!
